As a continuation of the post made in 2021, I did not want to miss the opportunity to name 6 others. web design trends who will try to collect prominence this 2022, some more interesting than others.
While I believe that the web trends serve more as play experiments I do find it interesting to observe and learn new ways of communicating in an attractive way, and why not, try some of the novelties and styles suggested by the greats of web design.
1 - Scrollytelling
The merger between "scroll and storytelling, or how to tell a history while the user scrolls down our website.
The idea is to dynamically intermingle different elements in order to create an effect of discovery and make the visitor want to keep scrolling to reveal what lies below.
Although the scroll effects that we already mentioned in the 2021 post have a lot to do (resizing, interactive backgrounds etc.) scrollytelling goes beyond that. We are not talking about simply adding scrolling effects for aesthetic purposes, but more about narrative.
Thus, images, texts and all visual elements dance in harmony following a certain logic, very well planned, in order to convey a story to our visitor.
Some of the websites that have captivated me thanks to scrollytelling are Infrared and Kalsovegan footwear company, a little more spectacular but perhaps a little overdone.

2 – Horizontal scroll
Until now, when I discovered with my mobile phone that I could swipe from right to left on a website, it was proof that it was a carelessly designed website, as the horizontal scroll, generally avoided, is due to margins or paddings that have slipped off the screen of the device.
Well, I found it really interesting how a flaw can become a trend, of course, without it being a question of neglected spaces but of a new, more modern and more modern way of living. original way to navigate in one place.
A couple of sites worth experiencing are If the moon were only 1 pixel or the Canadian brand Home Society. Even if the horizontal scrolling goes against a consensus as deep-rooted as scroll down on a website, in certain sections it can work by creating a surprising interaction for the user.

3 - Brutalist typography
Every year there is a font trend. 2021 was the year of large or XL typefaces. This year, 2022 seems to be even more concrete and we are talking about "brutalism". In reality, it is a term that comes from the architecture and refers to an architectural style that came to prominence in the mid-20th century, characterised by a rough and rugged appearance and whose basic materials are visible from the outside.
Thus, the brutalist typography is that dry, hard typeface, generally thick and with a urban nuance, which stands as a contrast to the minimalism that prevails these days in web design.
Some examples that I have loved are the Miratrix or the Monument Extended.
4 - Strong contrasts between colours
Of course, this trend is not for everyone, nor is it suitable for any website, but it is still a style that can bring a certain nostalgia to the generations born in the 80s.
Perhaps for sites related to art, music and similar fields it might be suitable.
Has anyone else thought of a retro tracksuit when they saw this pink and yellow one from Superglow? The animation studio PanicLatvia is no slouch either with its bubblegum greens and pinks.

5 - Nostalgia
And speaking of the 80s, precisely the nostalgia is another trend that has been going strong in recent years and is set to become established in 2022, reportedly in part because of the covid crisis.
They yearn for past epochs where there was no pandemic and this has led to certain nostalgic styles being printed on digital canvases.
Blurred images or blurred, typefaces retro or textures granulates are just some of the expressions we can use to give our site that melancholic air (if that makes sense).
Personally, I loved the PertinensFrench marketing agency.

6 - Off-grid (off the grid)
We could consider the grid as an amalgamation of lines that make up rows and columns (the skeleton of a website).
Thus, there are websites whose elements are perfectly Ordered in these "boxes", offering a sense of order, and on the contrary, places that break all the rules, creating a sense of "orderliness". arbitrariness which is anything but arbitrary.
A possible (somewhat extreme) example of a grid-ordered website would be the website of the BBCThe rows and columns are arranged in the same order at all times, varying in width and height according to their convenience at any given time.
On the other hand, I love the brand's website. Abel, that through scroll effects completely breaks this hierarchy or that of the American studio. Elegant SeagullsThe web elements of which are even displayed off the screen of the device.
Conclusion
Many of these websites have the capacity to leave you open-mouthed with their spectacular designs, eye-catching, original and modern. It's like looking at works of art on your computer screen.
Even so, with web pages it is a bit like with websites. fashion shows. Not everything worn by the models is made for everyday wear, they are purely objects of exhibition.
In the digital communication, no matter how spectacular a website may be, it does not fulfil its objective. What would be the point of using a horizontal scroll or any of these avant-garde trends if we are targeting a more conservative audience?
Proof of this is that many of the websites I have visited to extract examples of these fashions no longer exist, they were created solely and exclusively for participation in competitions. They have no real purpose.
So perhaps the secret lies in the balance, but above all, without losing sight of the communication objectives we have set ourselves. These should always guide our web design, beyond the merely aesthetic component.
And you, would you wear any of these? web design trends of 2022 to your website?
